So, apparently, I have a website now.
Which means I’ve run out of excuses not to start a blog.
I’m Andrey Kot. I write fiction, although anyone looking at my books might reasonably suspect that several unrelated writers are sharing the same name.
There’s fantasy, satire, darker stories, and the occasional uncomfortable question about human nature.
I seem to have a particular weakness for characters who find themselves trapped in situations they didn’t create, playing by rules they never agreed to. Sometimes the result is funny. Sometimes it isn’t. Often, the difference is surprisingly small.
But this place won’t be just about my books.
I’m fascinated by the odd details that make their way into stories. Forgotten bits of history. Things people say without realizing how much they’ve revealed. Absurd rules that everyone follows because nobody remembers who invented them.
And, of course, other people’s books. Some make me want to write. Others make me wonder why I bother trying.
Both are useful.
I’ll occasionally talk about my own writing, too — including the ideas that refuse to become stories and the stories that refuse to follow the plan.
I don’t have a grand mission statement for this blog.
I have a collection of interests, a questionable number of unfinished ideas, and a persistent curiosity about why people do what they do.
That seems like enough to begin.
